(Washington, D.C.) — Today, Congressmen Joe Morelle (D, NY-25) and Brian Fitzpatrick (R, PA-1) introduced legislation to make higher education more accessible to students with disabilities. The Pell Grant Flexibility Act would provide increased Pell Grant flexibility to ensure students receive critical financial support while taking the recommended number of credits.

(Rochester, NY)—Today, Congressman Joe Morelle was joined by Monroe County Executive Adam Bello and Monroe Community College (MCC) President Dr. DeAnna R. Burt-Nanna to announce a $3.5 million Community Project Funding award to expand MCC’s Applied Technologies Center (ATC). Congressman Morelle worked alongside Senators Schumer and Gillibrand to secure the funding as part of the Fiscal Year 2023 Appropriations Package.

This opportunity has always been tied to the strength and availability of our academic system and institutions of higher learning. However, in recent years the dream of pursuing a higher education and a better life has drifted out of reach for too many students.

HR 5739 would provide Pell Grant flexibility to ensure students receive critical financial support even if their disability precludes them from taking a full course load.
