CONGRESSMAN JOE MORELLE RESPONDS TO DONALD TRUMP’S OUT OF TOUCH COMMENTS ON CHILDCARE

April 2, 2026 (Rochester, N.Y.)—Today, Congressman Joe Morelle released the following statement in response to Donald Trump’s comments yesterday about the federal government’s responsibility to support working families:

“Medicare, Medicaid, and childcare are not ‘little scams,’ they’re the foundation of stability for millions of American families. The real scam is Donald Trump pushing an unnecessary war in Iran.

“If Donald Trump actually believed in putting America first, he’d be investing in things here at home like: universal childcare, affordable housing, expanded Affordable Care Act tax credits, and modern roads and bridges. Instead, he’s spent at least $30 billion of taxpayer money on war abroad while families here struggle to afford food and lifesaving medications. That’s not the America our community wants.

“We want an America focused on stability, opportunity, and dignity for families, not one that gambles with the lives of our sons and daughters while prioritizing conflict overseas. And while Donald Trump claims to stand with American families, his actions tell the truth: he’s willing to spend your money and risk your future to wage war and sow chaos.

“The American people deserve better.”
