STATEMENT FROM CONGRESSMAN JOE MORELLE

(Rochester, N.Y.)—Today, Congressman Joe Morelle released the following statement:

“In the dead of night, President Trump authorized new, widespread military strikes against Iran.

“The President is empowered to act militarily if there is an imminent threat to the United States. I am anxious to see evidence of an imminent threat but remain highly skeptical. If his past actions are any guide Donald Trump has no regard for the Constitution and the Rule of Law.

“The Iranian regime is repressive, destabilizing, and its nuclear ambitions pose a global threat. But these strikes risk real costs and consequences for the safety and security of the American people.

“If Iran’s nuclear capabilities were truly ‘obliterated,’ as the President claimed last year, renewed military action should be unnecessary. The American people do not support and should not be asked to bear the burden of another unending war in the Middle East.

“I am praying for the safety of our troops and all those caught in harm’s way.”
