Rep. Joe Morelle signed onto a letter today, addressed to U.S. Department of Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, where he and his colleagues displayed concern regarding the ability of student loan borrowers to keep up with payments while not receving pay. According to the American Federation of Government Employees, the average federal employee takes home $500 per week while the average student loan payment is $393 per month -- just one instance of President Trump's shutdown imposing a needless financial hardship on hardworking families.
