CONGRESSMAN JOE MORELLE CONDEMNS TRUMP ADMINISTRATION’S RULE TO CUT SUPPLEMENTAL NUTRITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (SNAP) BENEFITS FOR VULNERABLE ADULTS
(Washington, DC) – Congressman Joe Morelle released the following statement in response to today’s announcement from the United States Department of Agriculture that the Trump Administration has finalized a new rule tightening restrictions on the eligibility of vulnerable adults for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
“Tightening work requirements for SNAP eligibility serves only to further perpetuate the cycle of poverty and makes it more difficult for vulnerable adults to become self-sufficient. It is especially egregious that the decision comes during the holiday season—a season of giving. Instead of supporting the well-being of families and individuals, the Trump administration continues to strip away benefits from those most in need.”
“This rule, in partnership with two others proposed by the Trump Administration, could cut millions of Americans from the food security they rely on to survive, including thousands right here in Monroe County. I am troubled, yet unfortunately not surprised, by this decision which further underscores President Trump’s callous disregard for the needs of everyday Americans.”
