CONGRESSMAN JOE MORELLE HELPS NEW YORKERS TAKE ADVANTAGE OF EARNED INCOME TAX CREDIT AND FREE TAX ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS
YESTERDAY MARKED 13TH ANNIVERSARY OF EITC TAX AWARENESS DAY
(Washington, DC) – Every year, the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) helps nearly 26 million working Americans keep more of their hard-earned income. Following EITC Awareness Day on January 25, Congressman Joe Morelle encouraged New Yorkers to take advantage of refundable tax credits and local programs around Rochester offering free tax help.
"The EITC and similar refundable tax credits are essential tools that help uplift those in need," said Rep. Morelle. "I encourage all New Yorkers to take advantage of the many free, local services available to help ensure hardworking families get the benefits they deserve."
New York filed 1.6 million EITC claims in 2018, receiving 3.9 billion dollars in refunds. If you worked last year and had an income of less than $54,884, check your eligibility for EITC and other tax credits online with the EITC Assistant. The 2018 tax year versions are available now in both Spanish and English.
