CONGRESSMAN JOE MORELLE AND COMMUNITY LEADERS CELEBRATE THE GRAND OPENING OF ROCHESTER EMERGENCY VETERINARY SERVICES
(Rochester, NY)—Today, Congressman Joe Morelle was joined by County Executive Adam Bello and Mayor Malik Evans for the grand opening of Rochester Emergency Veterinary Services (REVS) following the closure of the region’s only twenty-four-hour emergency pet care facility. Congressman Joe Morelle brought together veterinarians and local government to develop a plan and secure funding for this new center.
“Veterinary services are a key component to the wellbeing of our beloved pets, and the inability to find immediate care can quickly become a crisis,” said Congressman Joe Morelle. “I’m so proud to have worked with local veterinarians and government partners to quickly get Rochester Emergency Veterinary Services up and running and fill this critical gap in our community. I hope this brings peace of mind to pet owners, and I look forward to our continued work together to support the veterinary community.”
“The opening of the new REVS clinic ensures that families in Monroe County will have somewhere to turn when their beloved animal needs urgent medical care,” said County Executive Adam Bello. “Today’s grand opening is a great example of how government can serve as a convener, bringing stakeholders together to solve problems. I’m grateful for Congressman Morelle for leading this effort.”
“For many in Rochester, a pet is a cherished family member and valued companion,” shared Rochester Mayor Malik D. Evans. “The new Rochester Emergency Veterinary Services will offer our pets improved health and quality of life and invaluable peace of mind for their owners. I’m thankful for Congressman Morelle’s commitment to this cause and grateful to the hospital’s veterinary and supporting staff.”
"We are just so very excited to finally get to this point,” said Isadora Marion, DVM. “Having a local after-hours emergency care option for our patients, our pets and our community is such a tremendous relief! Thank you so much to everyone for contributing time, money, ideas, and efforts. We are just beyond grateful for all the support!"
Since the closure of Monroe County’s only twenty-four-hour emergency pet care facility, Congressman Morelle has been working towards a solution to meet the needs of pet owners in our community. This includes addressing the issue faced by veterinary staff who were unfairly bound by non-compete clauses imposed by the corporation in ownership of our region’s former emergency veterinary hospital. His office successfully worked to eliminate these employment restrictions, then went on to collaborate with the Internal Revenue Service to work towards establishing a non-profit status for a permanent emergency care facility.
In addition to leading the effort to open this facility, Rep. Morelle collaborated with County Executive Adam Bello and Mayor Malik Evans to establish veterinary workforce investments through the County of Monroe Industrial Development Agency (COMIDA) to ensure our area isn’t confronted with a crisis of this nature ever again.
“Community involvement and support has played a crucial role in making this happen,” continued Congressman Morelle. “I thank everyone for effectively speaking out and demanding action with such passion. Let’s keep up the good work and bring even more talented veterinarians to Rochester."
