CONGRESSMAN JOE MORELLE ANNOUNCES $5.6 MILLION IN FEDERAL SUPPORT FOR TOWN OF RUSH
On the 50th anniversary of the Safe Drinking Water Act, Morelle celebrates the announcement of federal grant funding and loans to allow for the competition of the town’s new water district
(Washington, D.C.)—Today, Congressman Joe Morelle, a member of the House Appropriations Committee, announced he has helped secure more than $5.6 million in federal funding to support the creation of a new water district in the Town of Rush. The completion of this project will provide public water to the town and help improve the overall health, welfare, and safety of residents.
“Reliable access to clean water is fundamental for healthy communities. I’m proud to announce significant federal funding to make this a reality for more people in the town of Rush by creating a new water district,” said Congressman Joe Morelle. “I’m grateful to Supervisor Woolaver and the Town of Rush for their partnership as we work to upgrade our aging water infrastructure and improve quality of life for everyone who calls Rush home.”
“I would like to thank Congressman Joe Morelle and everyone involved in securing the funding for the new water district in the Town of Rush,” said Town of Rush Supervisor Daniel Woolaver. “Creating reliable access to clean water would be life changing for so many of our residents, and I look forward to the work ahead.”
The total funding for this project consists of $500,000 in Congressionally Directed Spending that Congressman Morelle secured through the Fiscal Year 2024 Community Project Funding Process as well as $5,107,000 in Rural Development direct loan funds from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
The Town of Rush will use these funds to construct a new water district and provide public water and fire protection to residents relying on private wells. Currently, many town residents experience hardships concerning their private well supplies, including low yields during dry periods and failed water samples. The Town intends to install approximately 35,000 linear feet of new 6" and 8" water main, valves, fire hydrants, and related appurtenances to serve the area's residents.
This project will improve drinking water quality for approximately 285 residents living in 114 households in the Town. Upon completion of this project, the residents will be served with public water which will protect water resources for the future, reduce greenhouse gases, and reduce potential well water contamination.
