CONGRESSMAN JOE MORELLE ANNOUNCES HOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM FUNDING
Funding will help offset heating costs for thousands in our community
Applications become available November 1st
(Rochester, NY)—Today, Congressman Joe Morelle announced New York was awarded more than $360 million in federal funding to assist local families ahead of the winter season through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). Applications will be available online November 1st.
“No one should ever be forced to choose between paying for heat and affording other necessities like groceries or medication,” said Congressman Joe Morelle. "Our area is not known for its temperate climate, so I’m proud to deliver this relief to Monroe County families by helping them save money on their heating bills. I encourage everyone who qualifies to sign up for this valuable program starting November 1st.”
LIHEAP helps families pay their heating costs or weatherize their homes to make them more energy efficient. This release includes funding appropriated by Congress from the Continuing Appropriations Act, 2024, as well as $100 million appropriated for FY 2024 from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
“This vital program served over 70,000 homes last year across Monroe County helping families with their heating costs,” continued Congressman Morelle. “By reducing the costs of home heating bills, reconnecting energy services that have been disconnected, preventing energy shutoffs, and providing minor energy-related home repairs, LIHEAP helps make sure our neighbors can stay safe in their homes this winter.”
