CONGRESSMAN JOE MORELLE APPOINTED TO RULES COMMITTEE
(Washington, DC) – Today, Congressman Joe Morelle was appointed by Speaker Nancy Pelosi to serve on the House Rules Committee.
"It is truly an honor to serve on the Rules Committee, and I am grateful to Speaker Pelosi and Chairman McGovern for this vote of confidence," said Rep. Morelle. "I am especially pleased that this will allow me to engage on all legislation that moves through the House, providing a unique opportunity to advocate for my community on a wide variety of important issues. I look forward to getting to work to ensure we are advancing policies that expand access to quality, affordable healthcare, grow our economy, and support the needs of hard-working Americans everywhere."
"As a former Majority Leader and member of the Rules Committee in the New York State Assembly, Congressman Morelle's breadth of experience will allow him to hit the ground running on this committee. He will also continue his district's proud legacy on the Rules Committee. I welcome him to the committee and look forward to working together this Congress," said Rules Committee Chairman James P. McGovern.
Among the oldest standing committees in the House, the Rules Committee is tasked with determining when and how bills come before members and assisting House leadership in scheduling bills for floor action, including crafting specials rules that determine the terms and conditions of debate on bills. All legislation must first pass through the Rules committee before it is brought to the floor for a vote.
"It is a privilege to continue the proud history the 25th District has with the Rules committee and pay tribute to the work of my dear friend Louise Slaughter, who served with distinction as both the former chair and ranking member of the committee," continued Morelle.
