CONGRESSMAN JOE MORELLE AUTHORING CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT TO REVERSE U.S. SUPREME COURT’S IMMUNITY DECISION
As lead Democrat on the Committee on House Administration, Rep. Morelle will introduce constitutional amendment to ensure no president is above the law
(Rochester, N.Y.)—This week, Congressman Joe Morelle announced he is introducing a constitutional amendment to reverse the United States Supreme Court’s decision to provide former president Trump with immunity in Trump v. United States. Congressman Morelle serves as the lead Democrat on the Committee on House Administration, which has oversight over federal elections.
“I am introducing a constitutional amendment to reverse the Supreme Court’s catastrophic decision and ensure no president is above the law. This amendment will do what they failed to do—prioritize our democracy,” said Congressman Joe Morelle. “The Supreme Court decision will cause a seismic shift in the powers of the presidency unless we take immediate action to ensure accountability, integrity, and justice prevail.”
On Monday, Congressman Morelle issued a statement on the Supreme Court ruling, stating the “decision by the conservative majority further erodes the public’s confidence in our institutions and poses as great a threat to our democracy as the behavior of the former president and his enablers.”
