CONGRESSMAN JOE MORELLE CO-SPONSORS COMPREHENSIVE LEGISLATION INVESTING $100 BILLION IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Rebuild America’s Schools Act invests $100 Billion in public schools, will create more than 1.9 million good-paying jobs
(Washington, DC) – Today, the House of Representatives introduced legislation co-sponsored by Congressman Joe Morelle to invest $100 Billion in public schools across the country. The Rebuild America's Schools Act will bolster the physical and digital infrastructure of schools and create 1.9 million jobs in the process.
"By investing in our schools, we are directly investing in the future and dreams of our children," said Rep. Morelle. "That is why I am proud to co-sponsor the Rebuild America's Schools Act which will invest $100 billion to our nation's public schools and ensure students, especially those in communities with high concentrations of poverty, have access to the resources they need to make those dreams a reality."
The Rebuild America's Schools Act would fund $70 billion in grants and $30 billion in bonds to help address critical physical and digital infrastructure needs in schools across the country. It will specifically target high-poverty schools with conditions that may pose health and safety risks to students and staff.
Furthermore, upon enactment this legislation would expand access to high-speed broadband to ensure that public schools have the reliable and high-speed Internet access they need in an increasingly digital age.
"Nothing should stand in the way of our children's educational success and that is why I will continue to work with parents, advocates and educators throughout our community to ensure every student is given the opportunity to achieve their full potential," concluded Rep. Morelle.
