CONGRESSMAN JOE MORELLE DELIVERS FUNDING TO SUPPORT SURVIVORS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

March 16, 2023

Secures $325,000 for Willow Domestic Violence Center to enhance support services for survivors and their families

(Rochester, N.Y.) — Today, Congressman Joe Morelle announced he has secured $325,000 in funding for Willow Domestic Violence Center to help break the cycle of abuse and support survivors of domestic violence. This investment will be used to strengthen trauma-informed care resources, provide direct client support, and expand Willow’s triage hotline.

“Investing in Willow means helping more victims trapped in abusive relationships and improving outcomes for themselves and their families,” said Congressman Joe Morelle. “I am proud to deliver this much-needed funding to help more people access their life-saving services. I am grateful for Willow’s commitment to ending the cycle of abuse in our community and look forward to our continued partnership as we work to support survivors.”

“The number of survivors reaching out for support has continued to increase significantly the last few years,” said Meaghan de Chateauvieux, President of Willow Domestic Violence Center. “Willow has been able to grow and meet the demand wherever our survivors are – literally – due to funding, like this grant from Congressman Morelle, that supports our mission-critical programs. This includes Willow’s 24/7 Hotline, children’s services, and direct support for survivors to meet their most pressing needs. This Women’s History Month, we are focused on the future and our vision of a community free from violence where healthy relationships thrive.”

Willow Domestic Violence Center will use this $325,000 investment to reach more survivors and their families by providing crisis intervention, housing, and employment assistance, allowing them to lead safe and empowered lives through self-sufficiency. These funds will also enable Willow to expand their Crisis and Support Hotline, as well as strengthen trauma informed care for their staff.

Congressman Morelle worked to secure this federal funding as part of the Community Project Funding process in the Fiscal Year 2023 Appropriations Package. Read the full project proposal here.
