CONGRESSMAN JOE MORELLE DEMANDS HOUSE REPUBLICANS CONSIDER BIPARTISAN, RESPONSIBLE GOVERNMENT FUNDING PACKAGE

Following a 12-hour markup of the House Appropriations Committee, Morelle declares “we don’t have bipartisan partners in the fight to help middle class families”
(Washington, D.C.)—Today, Congressman Joe Morelle—Vice Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Committee—released the following statement:
“In the early hours of this morning, the House Appropriations Committee concluded more than 12 hours of debate on a Republican-led spending plan that puts public education, lifesaving medical research, and women’s health care on the chopping block.
“Despite countless efforts led by my Democratic colleagues and me, House Republicans on the committee remained in lockstep with the draconian cuts pursued by the Trump administration. The resulting legislation is abhorrent and an insult to our families. The American people deserve better than this hyper-partisan bill—and House Democrats are going to keep fighting back.
“I remain hopeful that we can reach consensus on a thoughtful, bipartisan funding package that puts the American people—and the resources that support them—front and center. I won’t give up on this fight because the price of inaction is simply too high.”
