CONGRESSMAN JOE MORELLE DETAILS IMPACT OF U.S. TARIFFS ON THE ROCHESTER COMMUNITY
(Rochester, NY) – Today, Congressman Joe Morelle sent a letter outlining the impact U.S. tariffs are having on local municipalities. Inconsistent policies regarding aluminum tariffs have caused significant price increases and delays in shipment that are affecting public safety and traffic signage in Rochester, threatening pedestrian and commuter safety.
“In recent days, municipal leaders in my community have voiced their anxiety and frustration over the increased production delays and rising costs of aluminum-based public safety and traffic signage,” said Rep. Morelle. “Orders that previously took two to four weeks to complete are now significantly delayed due to vendors limiting the import of aluminum shipments in response to this tariff and constrained global supply. This backlog is especially alarming considering the importance of street signs to pedestrian and commuter safety.”
“Furthermore, some municipalities in my district are reporting a nearly 30 percent increase in the cost of all aluminum products purchased,” continued Rep. Morelle. “These unanticipated expenses are forcing local governments to adjust their budgets and ultimately shift taxpayer dollars away from other critical community projects and programs.”
