CONGRESSMAN JOE MORELLE ENCOURAGES MELINDA GATES TO SELECT ROCHESTER FOR $50 MILLION PIVOTAL VENTURES INVESTMENT

February 13, 2020

Gender Equality in Tech Cities Initiative seeks to promote gender equity by investing in cities working to elevate women in technology

(Washington, DC) – Today, Congressman Joe Morelle sent the attached letter urging Melinda Gates to select Rochester, New York as the next Gender Equality in Tech (GET) Cities investment. Recently, Ms. Gates announced that Pivotal Ventures would select three U.S. cities to receive $50 million in an initiative to elevate women in technology.

"The Rochester region is the birthplace of the modern women's rights movement and we celebrate the women in our community, both past and present, who have distinguished themselves as trailblazing leaders, visionaries, creators, and entrepreneurs," writes Rep. Morelle in the letter. "While we will always cherish our remarkable history, we are even more excited for what the future holds. I believe we have the pillars of support here in Rochester to build upon and bring to life the vision of Pivotal Ventures for Gender Equality in Tech Cities, and I look forward to pursuing opportunities for collaboration."

Chicago has already been selected to receive funding. Two other cities are expected to be chosen in the near future.
