Calls on fellow legislators to stand up to groups like the National Rifle Association (NRA) and find common ground on numerous legislative solutions

There are those who offer their thoughts and prayers when we see the kind of tragic gun violence that terrorized Highland Park families this weekend, yet offer no solutions. But there are solutions—in fact, I co-sponsor nearly two dozen different bills that would reduce gun violence and restore a sense of safety to our communities,” said Congressman Joe Morelle. “I’m urging my colleagues: please, find the courage to stand up to groups like the NRA that have had a chokehold on Congress for far too long. Find pieces of these dozens of bills that you might support, and let’s get to work making them happen.

  1. HR 1808 Assault Weapons Ban
    Bans the sale, transfer, manufacture, and importation of military-style assault weapons.

     
  2. HR 8 Bipartisan Background Checks Act
    Mandates background checks on the sale or transfer of every gun.

     
  3. HR 2510 Keep Americans Safe Act
    Bans the sale of high-capacity ammunition magazines and limits magazines to no more than ten rounds.

    Requires liability insurance for all firearm owners and purchasers.

     
  5. HR 1752 Cool Off Act
    Would mandate a three-day waiting period before an individual may receive a purchased handgun.

    Raises the age to 21 to buy a semi-automatic rifle, bans high-capacity magazines, bans bump stocks, imposes safe firearm storage requirements and encourages use of best practices for safe storage, codifies an ATF rulemaking to better regulate ghost guns, and strengthens penalties for gun trafficking.
