CONGRESSMAN JOE MORELLE PRESENTS FIRST CONGRESSIONAL AWARD OF DISTINCTION TO PEARLINA GIBSON

(Rochester, NY)—Today, Congressman Joe Morelle was in attendance at Miss Pearl’s Giving Back Event, to present her with his office’s first Congressional Award of Distinction.

“It is my honor to recognize Miss Pearlina Gibson for the incredible work she is doing by presenting her with my office’s first Congressional Award of Distinction,” said Congressman Joe Morelle. “We thank her for nourishing both our bodies and spirits with her generosity. Her selfless devotion to her neighbors exemplifies the best of our community, and we are truly blessed.”

The goal of Congressman Morelle’s Award of Distinction is to recognize the unsung heroes of our community—those who work every day in service of others and expect nothing in return. Pearlina Gibson began Miss Pearl’s Giving Back Event in 2014 with 250 holiday food baskets she personally funded. Ever growing and undeterred, she continued giving back throughout the pandemic, handing out baskets from her home by appointment. Now in its 10th year, Miss Pearl’s Giving Back event has moved to the Baden Street Settlement to accommodate even more local families.

“Miss Pearl’s Giving Back Event is about uplifting members of our community in need—a cause that becomes especially poignant during the holiday season,” continued Congressman Morelle. “I am deeply grateful for her kindness and compassion. May we all strive to bear one another’s burdens in her honor.”
