CONGRESSMAN MORELLE ANNOUNCES $126,766 IN FUNDING FOR LIFESPAN OF GREATER ROCHESTER
Today, Congressman Joe Morelle announced that $126,766 in Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) funding has been awarded to Lifespan of Greater Rochester as part of CNCS’s Senior Corps RSVP program. Senior Corps RSVP is a national service program designed for Americans age 55 and older to strengthen public and nonprofit agencies by building the infrastructure needed to efficiently and effectively mobilize experienced and skilled volunteers to support vital programs and services that help solve challenges facing communities.
“I am delighted that Lifespan has been awarded this funding to support the critical work they do to serve our aging population,” said Rep. Morelle. “This investment will not only help enrich the lives of older residents through important volunteer work, it will also benefit the community at large by expanding support services. I am grateful to CNCS for this important investment in our community and I thank Lifespan for their dedication and commitment to ensuring a high quality of life for those in their later years.”
“Lifespan is very grateful to receive funding from the Corporation for National Service. This funding helps us recruit, train and place older volunteers in non-profits and schools,” said Ann Marie Cook, President and CEO of Lifespan. “With this funding, we can support over 700 volunteers who will provide 90,000 volunteer hours to help the community. These volunteers read to school children, provide tutoring services, drive older adults to doctors’ appointments, provide respite to family caregivers, provide support to veterans - just to name a few activities. We greatly appreciate the support of Congressman Morelle in this effort and his efforts to ensure that everyone receives the support they need to thrive.”
Lifespan provides services to seniors and caregivers throughout Rochester, including assistance financing long-term care, guidance about eldercare, assistance handling bill payment and finances, advice about senior housing, help with health insurance options under Medicare, assistance in an elder abuse situation, and more.
