CONGRESSMAN MORELLE PASSES BILL TO PROTECT THE UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE

August 22, 2020

ENSURES MEDICATION, BALLOTS, CENSUS RESPONSES SAFE FROM TRUMP ADMINISTRATION ATTEMPTED SABOTAGE

(Washington DC) – Today, Congressman Morelle voted to pass the Delivering for America Act, a critical piece of legislation he cosponsored that prohibits the United States Postal Service (USPS) from implementing any changes to operations or level of service it had in place on January 1, 2020.

"Americans rely on the postal service for their medications, paychecks, Social Security benefits, election ballots, and more—we cannot allow the Trump Administration to jeopardize this critical service, especially in the middle of a pandemic when families need stability the most," said Rep Joe Morelle. "I'm proud that today we took meaningful action to protect the Postal Service, and to ensure the American people continue to get the high standard of service that they need to survive."

Although the Postmaster General announced that he would be putting a halt to all changes to the USPS until after the November 3rd election, he has also stated that he doesn't intend to replace blue mailboxes, sorting machines, and other critical pieces of infrastructure that the Trump Administration has ordered to be removed in an attempt to sabotage delivery. House Democrats will continue fighting to make the mail gets back to running smoothly and on-time.
