CONGRESSMAN MORELLE, SENATOR SCHUMER, SENATOR GILLIBRAND ANNOUNCE MORE THAN $45 MILLION IN FEDERAL FUNDING AWARDED TO L3HARRIS

(Washington, DC) - Today, Congressman Joe Morelle, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced that L3Harris Technologies Inc. has been awarded a $45.8 million Department of Defense contract for manpack radio development at their Rochester, New York, manufacturing facility.
"L3Harris is a major regional employer and global leader in innovative defense technology, and I'm proud that this significant award—which I have long advocated for—will allow them to not only enhance radio capabilities to better protect our warfighters, but also help further strengthen our local economy," said Congressman Joe Morelle. "As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I'm committed to ensuring our military has the technology they need to execute successful missions and keep Americans safe. I look forward to continuing to work alongside L3Harris and my partners in Congress to deliver investments like this and support our Armed Forces."
L3 Harris Technologies, Inc. is the industry leader in defense communication technology, employing 3,900 people in Rochester and more than 5,000 across New York state last year. Their man pack software programmable digital radios will ensure servicemembers have the encryption and communication capabilities necessary for operational security and overall force readiness.
"This well-earned contract will support jobs at L3Harris, boosting the recovery of the entire Rochester-Finger Lakes economy," said Senator Schumer. "L3Harris has proven time and time again that it can make superior radios for the U.S. military and our allies around the world. I'm proud to continue to work hard on behalf of this world-class producer of radios, and will always fight for investments that both protect our troops and provide a shot in the arm to the Rochester-Finger Lakes economy."
"L3Harris' cutting-edge research in defense communications technology helps keep our servicemembers safe by ensuring that they have what they need to communicate safely on the front lines," said Senator Gillibrand, chair of the Senate Armed Services Personnel Subcommittee. "This federal funding will allow L3Harris to continue to invest in and develop advanced programmable radios and help maintain thousands of good-paying jobs in Rochester and throughout New York State. I am proud to work with Senator Schumer and Congressman Morelle to secure federal resources for critical defense technology and will continue to do everything I can to ensure that Rochester remains at the forefront of military technology development and manufacturing."
"Our L3Harris AN/PRC-160 manpack radio is the most widely used HF radio across DoD ground forces and its growth into the air domain is a testament of the world class technology solutions we provide to those who serve our nation," said Dana Mehnert, President, Communication Systems, L3Harris. "We appreciate Rep Morelle and Senators Schumer and Gillibrand commitment to the Rochester-based workforce and their continued partnership."
