STATEMENT FROM CONGRESSMAN JOE MORELLE ON LOUISIANA V. CALLAIS

April 29, 2026 (Washington, D.C.)—Today, Congressman Joe Morelle, Ranking Member of the Committee on House Administration and House Democrats’ Lead on Election Security, issued the following statement on the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Louisiana v. Callais:

“Shame on President Trump and his cronies on the Supreme Court. It is not simply a court case. This is about our right to vote. For over 60 years, the Voting Rights Act has helped protect every American’s voice at the ballot box. People marched, fought, and died for that right. I will not sit by and let this corrupt Supreme Court take away these hard-won freedoms. Nor will I let the Supreme Court strip away the people’s power.
