Rep. Joe Morelle signed onto a letter today with many of his colleagues in the House of Representatives calling on the Trump Administration not appeal a recent court ruling to move forward in implementing the 2020 census without the harmful citizenship question. The administration's action comes in light of a decision by Judge Jesse Furman, of the Southern District of New York, where he stated the question was in violation of the Administrative Procedure Act and the Census Act. The judge's decision also cited the risk of creating inaccurate census data if the question is administered.
Rep. Joe Morelle and his colleagues in the House of Reprpesentatives penned a letter to President Donald Trump today voicing concern over how the his needless shutdown is hurting affordable housing programs. This letter was also sent to Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson, as the shutdown leaves HUD scrambling for funds to renew federal contracts that affect the housing of tens of thousands of Americans. According to the American Federation of Government Employees, the average federal employee takes home $500 per week while the average student loan payment is $393 per month -- just one instance of President Trump's shutdown imposing a needless financial hardship on hardworking families.
