CONGRESSMAN JOE MORELLE CALLS OUT DONALD TRUMP’S PATTERN OF CORRUPTION

May 6, 2026

Morelle warns Trump is using government to benefit himself, wealthy insiders instead of working families, outlines actions to fight back

Today, Congressman Joe Morelle called out Donald Trump’s pattern of corruption and abuse of power, warning that a government increasingly serving wealthy insiders instead of working families is undermining democracy, weakening public trust, and hurting communities like Rochester.

“Donald Trump and his cronies are using the power of government to benefit themselves instead of the American people," said Congressman Joe Morelle. “This isn’t one isolated incident—it’s a pattern of corruption that hurts working families, weakens faith in our democracy, and pushes government further away from the people it’s supposed to serve. I’m going to keep using every tool available to hold this administration accountable.”

Over the past 18 months, Donald Trump has committed tens of billions of taxpayer dollars to an ill-advised war in Iran while threatening programs families rely on at homeundermining voting rights protections, and weakening oversight and accountability across government. The consequences are being felt acutely in communities like Rochester, where families are already struggling with rising costs and growing economic uncertainty.

Families and individuals are paying more, public trust in the federal government is eroding, and programs people depend on are traded away as bargaining chips for political and personal gain. At the same time, efforts to restrict ballot access and weaken election oversight are threatening confidence in the democratic process itself.

In response, Congressman Morelle is taking direct action to confront corruption, protect voting rights, and defend democratic institutions by:

“Corruption like this doesn’t fix itself—it spreads when it goes unchecked,” Morelle continued. “The American people deserve a government that serves them—not Donald Trump and his cronies. I’m going to keep fighting to protect our democracy, defend working families, and make sure government answers to the people.”
