(Washington, DC) - Today, Congressman Joe Morelle voted to enshrine marriage equality into federal law, preventing the Supreme Court from rolling back this fundamental right for LGBTQ+ couples. The Respect for Marriage Act will ensure all couples—regardless of race, gender, or sexual orientation—have an equal right to marry whoever they love.

No matter who you love or how you identify, equality is a human right that must be extended to everyone who calls our nation home.

As Majority Leader of the NYS Assembly, I was proud to help pass the Marriage Equality Act and make New York one of the first states in the nation to legalize marriage equality. Since then, I have continued the fight to support and empower our vibrant LGBTQ+ community.
